Travel Day to Yosemite NP

We had a relaxing morning and the kids attended their first class while still at the campground.  It’s so nice when I don’t have to twist and turn around in the truck to pass computers back and forth. While he was waiting for his class, Wyatt played with Ariel on the picnic table. He seems to have a knack for hurting himself. He fell off the picnic table and landed on the rocks below.  Thankfully he is fine, but he has a nice bump on his head. After some tears and snuggles he was OK. Still, we applied some ice to his head just to be safe. Our poor little dude had his morning kindergarten class with a large ice pack. Thankfully the distraction of class time helped him forget about his head.

We set out toward Yosemite today, and the highways we travelled on for the first half of our trip were horrible. The camper was bounced all over the road. We made a stop at Camping World to pick up new bumper caps (we lost one somewhere along this trip) and a new water filter since ours burst in the freeze up at Moab. Last night when we put up our flamingo and palm tree lights, we realized we needed more strands, so Ron picked up some more lights for our awning. He also walked out with two large flamingos. It seems he’s not giving up easily on Florida. The flamingos really excited the kids. I’m sure Remi will be happy trying to destroy these two pink additions to our camping set up too.

The GPS on Ron’s phone took us along a twisty, narrow and steep road for the last two-and-a-half hours. Don’t get me wrong, it was truly spectacular and beautiful but it was also a bit scary. We could only travel about 25 miles an hour because of the hairpin turns. At some points, I could not look out my window because I felt like our tires must surely be on the edge of the cliff.  Clearly we survived and made it to our campsite since you are reading this blog, but wow!

Our campsite is at Yosemite Lakes RV and Resort and it is really pretty. We set up in the dark (we would have been fine were it not for the time change) and had yummy leftovers for dinner.  Tomorrow, we are excited to explore Yosemite NP.

A couple of years ago my family and Ron and I planned a big road trip from Olympia to Disneyland. My sister and her girls flew into San Francisco to join us on route. We spent a lot of time planning this trip with my mom and dad and Ron was very excited to have a night in Yosemite NP.  We were all excited actually. The hotel Ron booked was not in the Park, but we didn’t realize that when we checked in. We all thought we were in the park and so bought souvenir coffee mugs to commemorate this experience.

The following morning during our breakfast while we planned our route to Anaheim we realized that the actual park was still an hour away.  NOOOO!  We all had a good laugh. Ron felt bad that he promised a Yosemite experience and it failed to happen. So my parents and I have these beautiful Yosemite mugs from a trip we took “around” the park. Well in honor of Ron and I and the kids actually making it into the park this time my mom and dad pulled out their celebratory Yosemite mugs to enjoy their morning coffee this morning. We have to plan a camping trip here with them as soon as the borders open up again. Ron has to redeem himself!

The election is tomorrow and we have no service at our campground. I am not sure how we are going to watch the election results tomorrow night.  We may have to wait until the following morning.  Perhaps there is a TV in the laundry room and I can do some laundry and watch the results. This is a pretty big election year.

Goodnight from…hopefully somewhere close to Yosemite!
