Travel Day: Change of Scenery, Time Zone, & Weather
The wind blew all night, but I actually enjoyed it and found it peaceful. I could hear the leaves rustling and the camper would shake every now and then. It reminded me of the stormy fall weather at home. The pups must have been lulled by the wind too because they slept in until almost sunrise this morning. Ron was very happy with Remi when he woke up rested. We watched the beautiful sunrise from our RV as we got ready for the day. It was a nice morning in Oklahoma for sure.
The wind continued as we crossed the prairies and made our way through part of Texas and into New Mexico. As we drove into New Mexico, topography changed. Driving across the great plains, we could see the uplands in the distance. I was excited knowing the geography that lies ahead of us on this trip. We still have so many great things to see. Soon, we’ll explore Moab and the Arches—a part of the US I’ve wanted to see for years.
Some other happy news was today’s time change. It was wonderful to be almost in sync with Olympia again. When the kids are engaged in their school work there is less fighting. So, if school starts as soon as we get into the truck, it means a very peaceful morning for Ron and I. My neck is starting to get sore from having to turn around so many times to diffuse the “situations” happening in the back seat. I don’t know how many times I have had to remind the kids not to touch each other and to keep to their own sides of the truck, but now they’re getting creative with new ways to avoid those instructions. I don’t remember fighting with my sister as much as our kiddos fight but I’m sure we did.
Our Captain is still listening to Radio Margaritaville on SiriusXM, so I know he is still pining for the white sandy beaches of Florida. We still have a couple more days of sunshine and warm temperatures ahead of us so that will make him happy. And as long as Remi keeps spoiling him by sleeping through the night his spirits will remain high. I’ve been careful not to mention the chilly temperatures back home, though. My family is having snow in Canada and I am loving all the snowy pictures.
Ariel and Wyatt are also excited about the snow because that means Santa visits soon. Growing up in snowy and cold northern Manitoba, I was convinced that we were so far north that we must be Santa’s first stop. The kids told us many times that they want to live in Canada, and I would love for them to live in a place where they could enjoy a magical white Christmas every year. This may be a hard sell for Ron however. He wants to wear flip flops year round.
Our campsite in Las Vegas, New Mexico is quite nice. Everything I have seen of New Mexico so far is pretty. The winds are still blowing but it keeps the RV nice and cool and the dogs happy. We are adjusting to the time change and the higher elevation, so we’re all a bit more sleepy tonight. We had a cozy movie night in the RV and lots of snuggles. Tomorrow we head to Mesa Verde in Colorado and I can’t wait. I have been to Colorado a couple of times when Ron and I were dating and after we were married. I have always thought it was a very beautiful State. Let’s hope we don’t run into snow!
Good night from breezy New Mexico.
