Grandparent Time in Palm Desert

Halloween is almost here and the kids are getting more and more excited about the holiday and spending Halloween in Palm Desert with Ron’s mom and dad. We found a beautiful campground close to where they live, so it’s perfect.

Our cell service was hit and miss along our drive through Arizona and I was happy that Ariel and Wyatt were able to attend at least one of their classes today. I am so thankful that their teachers are so understanding of our situation. The road to California reminded us of a rollercoaster ride. The small rolling bumps all along on the highway made our stomachs flutter.  Ariel and Wyatt thought this was pretty cool, but I couldn’t help picturing everything bouncing around inside the RV. Thankfully everything was Ok, except our outside fridge has stopped working. Ugh!!

Several battles in the backseat later we finally arrived in Palm Desert and checked into our campsite at Emerald Desert RV Resort. This campground is so beautiful and I’m so happy we decided to stay here instead of the Joshua Tree KOA. For Halloween this campground hosts a retro RV Halloween event. They have been doing this for years and despite the limited number of RV’s that came due to Covid it was still spectacular. All the cute little RVs with their Halloween decorations were fantastic and we couldn’t wait to see them at night.

After a quick set-up, we were off to see Ron’s mom and dad. We enjoyed a relaxing taco dinner on their patio and an evening golf cart ride. Ariel and Wyatt were so excited because they both got a chance to drive the golf cart while grandpa controlled the gas pedal and brake. Ariel kept wanting grandpa to go faster and faster and my mind had flashbacks of my sister driving when she was a teenager. OH DEAR!  Ron and I decided it would be fun to let the kids have a sleepover with their grandparents, so we said goodnight. The kids requested popcorn and a movie, so I knew they’d have a great time. I was also sure all four of them will sleep well tonight. Our kiddos have A LOT of energy.

Ron and I didn’t know what to do with so much relaxing peace and quiet. We enjoyed a peaceful walk around the entire campground and soaked in all the Halloween atmosphere. The retro RV’s looked so cozy inside and their decorations were fantastic. I was so excited to share this with the kids tomorrow. I knew they were going to love it. Ron and I also decided to put up our own Halloween lights as a surprise for the kids. The majority of homes at the Lakes Country Club where Ron’s parents live do not have Halloween decorations up so Ron and I decided that even if there is no trick or treating the kids will still love to walk through the campground to see all the decorations at night.

To cap off our night we treated ourselves to a spa night.  We applied a facial mask, eye gel pads and watched Halloween the movie.  I am thankful for this relaxing time and I know the kids are having a blast themselves.

Goodnight from California!
