Exploring San Francisco

Ron and I got up early before the kids, and enjoyed some morning coffee outside. The campground was quiet except for the sound of all the songbirds singing and fluttering about.  Ron cooked bacon and eggs on the outside grill while the kids slowly woke up. We usually don’t do this, but we let them turn on some cartoons this morning. I think we just wanted to preserve our quiet time outside. I decided to really pamper myself with a facial mask while I sipped my coffee. All of the different water and climatic conditions we have experienced along this trip have not always been kind on my skin or hair. Time for a little TLC.

Ariel and Wyatt attended their morning classes, and then we set off to see San Francisco. The kids thought that crossing the Golden Gate Bridge was pretty great. We stopped to get some family pictures once we crossed the bridge.  We recreated one picture of Ariel and me that my dad took here about six-and-a-half years ago. Ariel especially liked posing for this picture.

We made our way to Fisherman’s Wharf to explore and then meet my good friend Rachel and her sweet family for lunch. I met Rachel when she moved into the house at the end of our street. Once we met each other, we became instant friends. I have so many fun memories of the years she spent there. Sadly she moved away a couple of years ago. We have stayed in touch and have managed to see each other once a year. Seeing her was a trip highlight, and it felt like no time had passed since our last visit.

Spending the afternoon with Rachel and Marcus and the girls made me realize that I want to make a point of seeing them more often. After a fun afternoon filled with lots of laughs and catching up we headed back up north to our campsite. Ariel and Wyatt had so much fun playing with Sophia and Lilly and have requested more playdates. I think some FaceTime playdates will have to be planned until we see them again.

We tucked the kids into bed, then Ron relaxed with his book, and I got ready to watch Bachelorette. This has been quite the season and I’m happy we have a cable connection so I can stay caught up. It’s so fun to text my girlfriends during the show and after about all the things that shocked us. We only have 4 more days after this and it feels surreal. We have been on the road for almost 60 days now and it feels like yesterday that we were visiting Glacier NP (our first NP on this adventure). It is going to feel strange to live in a house that’s not on wheels and that you have to set up each day.

Goodnight from California!
