The Next Adventure is Home

“Life’s a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

Clive Cussler, Lost Empire

This is our last day—so hard to believe! It’s sad to wrap up this adventure, but exciting at the same time. It will be good to be home and we know life has more adventures in store for us. Ron and I closed up camp for the last time this year, and then we set off for home. For a while truck was a bit quiet as we settled into the 4 hour drive. As we drove, I reflected on all the amazing experiences we have had over the last 64 days. The only sounds in the truck were from Ariel and Wyatt as they had their classes. I will admit that being home will be great for the fact that the kids will have a desk to sit at for all their classes and we will always have good strong wifi.

Ron planned one final stop for us on the way home. We stopped at Dobbes Winery just south of Portland to pick up some of our favourite wine. We had a small tasting and said cheers to celebrate our trip.

From there it was only a 2 hour drive until we were home. After passing through Portland, we crossed the Columbia River and into Washington State. As soon as we saw the Washington State sign, we all gave a little cheer. We asked Ariel and Wyatt what they were most excited about. They replied they were excited to see their bedrooms again and our two pets we left with our house sitter.

The sight of our home sweet home when pulled into our driveway at 4:30 pm was pretty great. I headed into the house, delighted to see our senior pup Bella and my fluffy kitty Lacie. Bella was excited to see us too. She did her happy run around the yard, yipping. I let Maggie and Remi into the backyard and the three of them ran around together like old friends.  Maggie did her usual surveillance to make sure her domain was free from rabbits.

I brought in the essentials from the RV, and then we all relaxed. I decided that we could unload the rest of the RV over the next few days. Today, I just wanted a moment to sit and absorb the fact that we were home again. Ariel and Wyatt were thrilled to see their rooms again and all of their toys.  Being away for over 2 months caused all of the kid’s things to feel like new again, so they had a renewed interest in playing with all their toys. They happily played for the rest of the evening. Our good friends Brenden and Allison came over to welcome us home. It felt so good to be cozy in front of the fire with our friends.

Our trip was a once in a lifetime adventure and I am so grateful to have had this experience with Ron and the kids. Writing this blog has been pretty special for me too. I know that Ron and I will be looking back on it for years to come and smile as we relive our great memories. We drove through 42 States and visited 16 National Parks and drove 14552 miles. What a trip!!

Now it’s time for us to get settled and we are already excited to start thinking about the holidays coming up.  Remi and Maggie have their spa appointments tomorrow to wash off all the camping dirt and our RV goes in for her spa treatment in December. The unforgiving roads took their toll on our RV, so she needs some TLC and repair.  She did a great job being our home away from home, though.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. It was amazing for us as a family and one that we will always remember.

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do some research about this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I am very glad to see such great information being shared freely out there. Millicent Devlin Melborn
