On the Road Again: Travel Day to Yellowstone

“To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, to gain all while you give, to roam the roads of lands remote, to travel is to live.”

~Hans Christian Anderson

Since Ariel and I were up early today, we took advantage of the time difference and enjoyed the extra hour together before school. We took Maggie (our oldest German Shorthaired Pointer) for a morning run through the campground before most of the other campers were awake.  Ariel rode her bike and chatted the entire time, which was a nice distraction. West Glacier KOA is a truly beautiful campground. Having it mostly to ourselves in those sleepy and peaceful morning hours was the perfect start to our day.

Getting out and moving early was a good idea too. The rest of the day was all about school and travel, which meant hours and hours of sitting. By 11:20 am, after breakfast and a good morning for Ariel with her teacher and classmates, and it was time to get back on the road. Our next destination was our campsite at KOA West Yellowstone.

Our day on the road, soaking in all the new landscapes,  was long but good. I especially loved seeing the farmland. It reminded me of the years I spent living in Southern Manitoba, surrounded by farms. Wyatt serenaded us to “One Margarita” by Luke Bryan during a portion of our trip. It seems he loves the easy chorus and singing it on repeat. His little voice is so cute. I will be sad when he grows out of it, but for now it’s a treat!

We stopped for a nice roadside lunch along a forested highway and let the pups stretch their legs. In Butte, Montana we bought a new crate for Remi, who has now graduated to a large dog crate. I knew I should have done that before we left!  Of all the notes we’ve made on this trip, one is to make sure the back of our truck is completely organized for easy access to the dogs and their supplies. I love organization, so I think I need to step in and help Ron with this, LOL.

As usual, a normal 6 hour drive seems to take us 8 hours. Around 7:30pm, we finally arrived at Yellowstone Park West Gate KOA. It was later than we wanted, but it was nice to be settled and we made the most of it.  We took the dogs to the dog park and then had some left over chili for dinner. With these long travel days in mind, I made a lot of food ahead of time. Tonight that really paid off!

Yellowstone was the one big National Park that I always heard about growing up. I’m excited to finally explore it tomorrow. In the meantime, we’ll be dreaming of bison and geysers.
